Itsko Maznev is among those artists whose presence remains palpable long after they are gone. Born in 1964 in Plovdiv, he graduated from the National Academy of Arts with a degree in Graphics under Prof. Galilei Simeonov and from his first independent appearances attracted attention as an author with a bright individuality, intellectual depth and uncompromising attitude towards art.

Known primarily as an exceptional master of graphics, Maznev builds a world in which technical perfection is never an end in itself. His works combine precision, symbolism and a special inner tension, and behind each image one can feel an artist with a rare culture and ability to think beyond the visible. His works do not seek a quick effect - they reveal their power gradually, through detail, association and carefully constructed composition.

During his relatively short but extremely intense creative path, Itsko Maznev realized more than twenty solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad and participated in a number of significant expositions of contemporary Bulgarian art. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the First Prize for Young Artist of the Jacques Escenier Foundation, a prestigious specialization in the studios of the Cité des Arts in Paris, and two First Prizes of the Society of Plovdiv Artists.

Despite the recognition he receives, Maznev remains far from the noisy publicity. His exhibitions attract an audience that seeks not just a beautiful image, but an encounter with an authorial position and true artistic value. His last major project - the joint exhibition “Avantage” with Kolyo Karamfilov – is a kind of homage to the friendship, free spirit, and influence of the great Plovdiv artist Georgi Bozhilov - The Elephant.

After his untimely death in 2016, the work of Itsko Maznev remains part of the memory of contemporary Bulgarian art. Today, his graphics continue to impress with their intelligence, precision, and inimitable atmosphere - qualities that have made his name one of the significant phenomena on the Plovdiv art scene of recent decades.
