Yordan Pankov (J.PANK) is an artist with a clearly recognizable creative style, in which art history, pop culture and the contemporary visual world meet in an unexpected way. Born in 1966 in Gabrovo, he graduated from the National Academy of Arts and has been actively involved in the artistic life of Bulgaria since the early 1990s. He works and lives in Sofia.
A special place in his work is occupied by interpretations of lost and stolen masterpieces from the history of world art. Instead of literally restoring the missing works, Pankov creates his own versions and new visual narratives inspired by them. Thus, the memory of the disappeared works becomes a starting point for contemporary art, filled with irony, play and cultural references.
Over the years, the artist has realized over twenty solo exhibitions and participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, biennials and festivals. He has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists since 1993.
Today, Yordan Pankov continues to actively create and present new exhibitions. Whether working in graphics, painting or mixed media, his art remains recognizable for its ability to transform familiar images from cultural memory into something simultaneously new, witty and thought-provoking.
