Lyubomir Samardzhiev (1937–1999) is among the significant artists and teachers who left a lasting mark on the artistic life of Plovdiv. He graduated from the Academy of Arts in Sofia with a degree in Painting under Prof. Nenko Balkanski and dedicated his professional career to both his own work and the training of young artists.
His works are characterized by a profound attitude towards drawing, the discipline of form and respect for classical artistic values. Regardless of whether he works in the field of painting or graphics, Samardzhiev remains faithful to the pursuit of clear plastic expression and precisely constructed composition.
His role as a teacher at the National Art High School "Tsanko Lavrenov" in Plovdiv is particularly significant. Among his students are authors such as Evgeniya Panchova, Onnik Karanfilyan, Svetlozar Chavdarov and Stoyan Kutsev – artists who later developed successful careers in the fields of painting, graphics, sculpture and unconventional forms of art. It is through their work that the influence of their teacher lives on.
Today, the name of Lyubomir Samardzhiev remains associated not only with his works, but also with an important continuity in Bulgarian art – the one that is built through knowledge, personal example and dedication to the next generations of artists.
