Atanas Hranov (born 1961, Plovdiv) is among the brightest and most recognizable names in contemporary Bulgarian art. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, majoring in Woodcarving, but his creative language has long transcended the boundaries of a single discipline, uniting painting, sculpture and object in a characteristic and easily recognizable authorial universe.
His works combine mythology, history and personal symbolism in multi-layered visual narratives, populated by ships, flying figures, mysterious characters and objects, carrying a sense of memory and journey. Between reality and imagination, Hranov's works build a world in which every form has its own history, and every detail is part of a larger narrative.
Over the years, the artist has held numerous solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad and has received a number of prestigious awards. His works are part of museum and private collections both in Bulgaria and abroad, establishing him as one of the significant contemporary authors on the Bulgarian art scene.
