Plamen Rusev is an artist who follows his own direction, far from ready-made formulas and easily recognizable styles. He received his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence - a city where the encounter with classical European art left a lasting mark on his attitude towards painting and drawing.
In his works, reality is never a simple reflection of what is seen. Figures, spaces and situations appear as parts of a world built simultaneously from observation, memory and imagination. The author himself defines his work as an attempt to recreate the “reality in our heads” - that space in which thoughts, feelings and associations exist freely beyond the logic of everyday life.
Over the years, Plamen Rusev has held solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad, remaining consistent in his refusal to repeat already discovered solutions. Instead of looking for a recognizable formula, he prefers each new work to be an independent study and a new challenge.
Today, the author continues to actively create, developing a painting that combines intelligent humor, free imagination, and a deep sensitivity to human nature. It is this independence of thinking that makes his work a difficult to define, but easily memorable presence in contemporary Bulgarian art.
