Rumen Nechev is an artist who transforms graphics into a space for reflection, and images into a carrier of ideas, memory and human experiences. Born in 1959 in Smolyan, he graduated from the Art High School in Kazanlak, and later studied Graphics at the University of Veliko Tarnovo under Prof. Hristo Tsatsinov. Since the late 1980s, he has been building a consistent and recognizable presence in Bulgarian graphic art, associated with a characteristic plastic language and philosophical depth.

A literal narrative is absent from his work. Instead, Nechev builds a world of signs, symbols and generalized forms, in which the human figure often becomes a metaphor for inner states, memory and spiritual searches. His graphics combine precision and freedom, intellectual concept and strong visual impact – qualities that establish him as one of the leading representatives of the contemporary Bulgarian graphic school.

Over the years, the author has held dozens of solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad and participated in prestigious international biennials and triennials of graphics in Europe and Asia. He is the winner of numerous national and international awards, including the First Prize at the Biennial of Small Forms in Pleven, the First Prize for Graphics at the International Biennial of Humor and Satire in Gabrovo, the St. Cyril and Methodius Foundation Award from the International Biennial of Graphics in Varna, and the Plovdiv Award for Fine Arts.

In addition to being an artist, Rumen Nechev also plays an important role in the cultural life of Plovdiv. In the period 2002-2005, he was the chairman of the Society of Plovdiv Artists and actively participated in a number of curatorial and artistic projects related to contemporary Bulgarian art.

Today, he lives and works in Plovdiv, where he continues to actively create new works and participate in exhibitions. Although graphics remain the basis of his work, in recent years the author has increasingly confidently developed his painting, bringing to it the same sensitivity to form, sign and human presence. Regardless of the technique, Rumen Nechev's art remains recognizable for its ability to transform a seemingly simple image into an occasion for a longer look and deeper reflection.
