Magardich Kasapyan is among those artists who transform graphics into a territory of ideas, symbols and spiritual quests. Born in Plovdiv in 1963, he builds a recognizable author's world, in which biblical motifs, mythological images and eternal questions about human nature are intertwined in complex and multi-layered compositions. A master of the drypoint technique, Kasapyan is among the brightest representatives of contemporary Bulgarian graphics.
A graduate of the National Academy of Arts with a degree in Graphics, he dedicates his life to both creativity and the training of new generations of artists. Today he is a professor of graphics at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, where he continues to actively teach and research the history and contemporary forms of graphic art.
Among his most recognizable cycles is "Light from the Word" - a series in which the spiritual and the human coexist in the visual language characteristic of the author. He is the recipient of a number of national and international awards, including the graphics award of the Society of Plovdiv Artists, the honorary plaque of the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom” for lifetime achievement, and the “Knight of the Brush” award.
Even today, Magardich Kasapyan remains an active presence on the art scene. He participates in national exhibitions and curatorial projects, and in recent years has presented his works in joint exhibitions and solo exhibitions, including the Kasapyan brothers’ exhibition at the “Abris” Graphic Gallery and participation in significant Plovdiv art forums.
His works are in museum and private collections in Bulgaria, Europe, the USA, and Japan. Regardless of whether we consider one of his graphics as a story, a parable, or a visual riddle, behind each line lies the same aspiration – to discover meaning beyond the visible.
