Valchan Petrov is among the established names in contemporary Bulgarian art - an artist whose creative biography unites painting, monumental art and an active role in the cultural life of Plovdiv. Born in 1947 in Hisarya, he graduated from the National Academy of Arts with a degree in “Monumental and Decorative Painting” and from the very beginning of his journey he built a recognizable artistic language based on strong color, free pictorial plasticity and deep human sensitivity.

In his works, reality often turns into a symbol, and everyday images acquire a poetic and philosophical dimension. Regardless of whether he creates monumental works or chamber paintings, Valchan Petrov remains true to his interest in man, memory and spiritual presence, turning color into the main carrier of emotion and meaning.

Over the decades, he has realized numerous exhibitions and monumental projects in Bulgaria and abroad, and his works are part of the collections of the National Gallery, the City Art Gallery - Plovdiv and a number of public and private collections. Apart from being an artist, he has also made a significant contribution to the development of artistic life as a teacher and long-time director of the City Art Gallery in Plovdiv.

Today, Valchan Petrov continues to actively create and present new exhibitions. His art combines the experience of several creative decades with a constant striving for renewal - a rare quality that ranks him among the most recognizable and respected Bulgarian artists of his generation.
