Julian Yordanov is among the most recognizable names in contemporary Bulgarian graphics - an artist for whom virtuoso drawing and strong imagination go hand in hand. Born in 1965 in Lovech, he graduated from the Iliya Petrov Art High School in Sofia, and later majored in Graphics at the National Academy of Arts under Prof. Petar Chuklev. From the very beginning of his creative path, Yordanov chose the complex and demanding world of graphics and bookplates, turning them into a field for personal mythologies, symbols and visual stories.

In his works, reality and fantasy coexist. The heroes of ancient myths, biblical images, medieval allegories and fantastic creatures come to life in compositions filled with drama, movement and exceptional attention to detail. Regardless of whether he creates large-scale graphics or miniature bookplates, the author builds a world in which every line carries meaning and every figure is part of a larger story. His series, inspired by Prometheus, Hercules, Eros, Neptune, “The Ship of Fools” and other mythological and literary plots, have become some of the most recognizable images in contemporary Bulgarian graphic art.

International recognition comes naturally. Over the years, Julian Yordanov has participated in dozens of prestigious biennials, triennials and competitions for graphics and ex-libris around the world, winning over twenty international awards. Among the most significant are the First Prize of the International Ex-libris Competition in Ankara, the First Prize of the FISAE Ex-libris Exhibition in Beijing and the special award of the Museum of Graphic Arts in Istanbul. His works are in the collections of museums, galleries and private collectors in Europe, Asia and North America.

Along with his active creative activity, Yordanov has made a significant contribution to the development of graphic art in Bulgaria as the artistic director of the International Ex-libris Competition in Varna - one of the most significant events in this field in our country.

Today, Julian Yordanov lives and works in Sofia, continuing to create new graphic cycles, participate in exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad, and expand the boundaries of his visual world. His art reminds us that great stories never get old - they simply find new images through which to tell them.
